With political tensions increasing through the fall of 2005, the communications and IT teams carefully reviewed disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Then on December 6, the Eritrean government expelled over 150 UNMEE staff members. It was now time to turn plans into action.
Left: Greg Ogolla and Dalibor Marinic discuss the server rack that could not be sent to Addis Ababa because it wouldn't fit through the airplane cargo door. We later borrowed a rack from another UN office in Addis, and we were able to install the servers and network equipment.

UNMEE has put our real-time flight manifests online using asp.NET and XML. Using a Lotus Notes agent to create an XML snapshot of the flight scheduling system, we display the information in a user-friendly format on our intranet. |
